Alfonsina Storni

Alfonsina Storni (29 May 1892 – 25 October 1938) was an Argentine poet and playwright of the modernist period.

Storni was born in Switzerland. She became one of the first women to find success in literature and theater in Argentina, focusing on feminist themes and challenging traditional gender roles. Storni's early works were controversial for their eroticism, and she gained wider recognition after publishing several volumes of poetry. She also wrote children's theater pieces and became friends with notable literary figures like Horacio Quiroga and Gabriela Mistral. In 1935, Storni underwent a mastectomy due to breast cancer, which later reappeared. She committed suicide by drowning herself in the sea at La Perla beach.
