Brooks/Rust: "From this point on, almost all Columbia masters were recorded by the Western Electric system, and the matrix numbers appear preceded by the letter W in a circle. Harmony records, however, continued to be made by the acoustic method—the file-cards bear notice to this effect for some time—until sometime in 1929, when they also were made by the electric system (a few were recorded thus in 1928). The W cypher never appeared on Harmony records, however."
Information on takes listed as issued for this release is based on documentation found in the Columbia Master Book. The compiler of the CMB relied, in part, on examination of Columbia matrix cards. These cards indicate which takes were approved, or given the "OK" for mastering so metal parts could be produced. However, when multiple takes were approved for production it is not confirmed that all were issued. Further information may be found in this article.
